As the start of the 2026-27 school year approaches, we want to make sure our families are equipped with the knowledge they need to make this year a great one! You can find a collection of resources that will help you throughout the school year on our 2026-27 School Year webpage.

Here are some helpful reminders and resources you might need this fall:

Dress Code

Clovis Unified has a dress code for students to follow. We’re focused on creating a healthy and safe learning environment for ALL students. You can learn more about the dress code on our website, but keep these in mind when shopping for school clothes or getting the back-to-school haircut:

A 5-inch inseam requirement for shorts
No frays that would allow for skin or undergarments to show through them
Sleeveless shirts must have 2-inch wide straps on the shoulder
Elementary-aged students must wear shoes that have a heel strap or back
No flip flops are allowed at any grade level
No hair, beard or mustache styles that can be distracting (unusual colors, designs, cuts, etc.)

Bus Routes

ParentSquare

ParentSquare is our district’s communication platform in use at all of our schools and at the district level. It’s the one place to stay in-the-know!

You’ll receive Posts (like this one!) with newsletters to read, forms to fill out, appointments to sign up for and more.
You might get a Direct Message from a teacher who needs to talk to you one-on-one.
You’ll also get Alert messages from the district if something urgent is going on.

Make sure you’re receiving information on ParentSquare the way you want to:

Download the app. This makes sure you can quickly access ParentSquare information wherever you are.
Confirm your contact information. If you’re having trouble getting our notifications, or just need to update your contact details, talk to your school registrar or make the updates in Parent Connect.
Customize your notification settings. Go to your Account Settings and look for Notification Settings. You can turn on or off notifications via text, email or app for each school site as well as the district.

Traffic Safety

New this year, areas surrounding schools in the city of Fresno now have a 20 mph speed limit instead of 25 mph. Clovis Unified schools impacted include Clovis North and Clovis West high schools; Granite Ridge and Kastner intermediate schools; and Boris, Copper Hills, Fancher Creek, Fort Washington, Fugman, Hirayama, Liberty, Lincoln, Maple Creek, Mountain View, Nelson, Oraze, Pinedale, Riverview and Valley Oak elementary schools.

For all of those who drive their students to school, we want to remind you of some safety tips to keep in mind:

Obey the speed limit in school zones, and watch for children walking or riding bikes to school.
Double check every intersection, watching for pedestrians crossing the street.
When entering or exiting parking lots, watch for students crossing the entrance.
Watch for students walking through parking lots.
Use the proper drop off/pick up areas designated by your school to keep the flow of traffic smooth.
In weather conditions like rain or fog, slow down and be extra cautious of the drivers and pedestrians around you.

In addition, always stop behind a school bus with its red lights blinking and its stop sign out. This means students are entering or exiting the bus and may be crossing the road.

E-Bike Safety

If your student uses an e-bike or other electric vehicle, be aware of the rules and regulations surrounding those. Under California law, anyone riding a motorized vehicle should not ride recklessly (VC §23103) or at an unsafe speed (VC §23109). E-bike riders should always have both wheels on the ground, hands on the handlebars, and your body on the seat as they travel at a safe speed. If used incorrectly, e-vehicles can be impounded and will require expensive fines to be returned.

Free School Meals

Our Campus Catering department is once again able to provide free breakfast and lunch to all CUSD students every school day! Breakfast times vary by school site, so check what time your school offers breakfast to make sure you don’t miss out. Your school’s website will have a link to the weekly meal menu.

Health Clinic

Did you know CUSD has a health center for students? Our Sierra Vista Children’s Health Center is located in the southeast corner of the Sierra Vista Elementary campus (510 Barstow Ave, Clovis CA 93612).Services are available to children ages 0-18 years, and are free-of-charge to income-eligible families. Services include sports and wellness physicals, wellness exams, immunizations, treatment of illness or minor injuries, screenings and more. Learn more about the Health Center.

School Safety

At Clovis Unified, we take the safety of our students and staff very seriously. We work closely with local and state agencies to ensure that we are well-prepared and children are protected in the case of any emergency situation. You can read more about our school safety procedures and what you should do in case of an emergency at a school on our School Safety webpage.

Here is an overview of what to expect if an emergency situation does arise at a school site:

1. Clovis Unified has its own police force, but also works with local law enforcement agencies who may be leading the investigation.

2. An Urgent Alert via ParentSquare is sent to parents, generally within the first 15 minutes of a safety event. Please know that securing a campus for the safety of our students and staff must be our top priority, followed closely by our commitment to keeping you well-informed.

3. Parent/guardian contacts on file will receive an email, text and phone call for this initial alert message. Please refer to this for answers to your questions, and keep phone lines at the school clear. If necessary, place your call to the district office and a member of our support team will help.

4. Please do not come to the school campus while emergency protocols are in place, unless you are instructed do so by the school. Most of the time, law enforcement will not allow anyone to enter or exit campus, and we need to make sure the roads and parking lots stay clear for public safety personnel to do their jobs.

5. We will send update texts and emails every 20-30 minutes, even if there are no major updates to report. We will send a message when the situation is resolved via an Alert (text and email).

6. Prepare now by checking your notification settings in ParentSquare (in your Account Settings) and make sure you have texts and emails turned on for Clovis Unified School District so you receive our Alerts.
