New Dress Code and Bell Schedules

Posted Thursday, January 13, 2022
We’re excited to announce the outcomes of two in-depth studies Clovis Unified has completed over the course of the fall semester.  Thank you to everyone who contributed thoughts, ideas and suggestions during our bell schedule and dress code reviews. Your feedback has resulted in action by our Governing Board on Jan. 12 to approve updates to our existing dress and grooming policy (No. 5132), and to school start and end times (Board Policy No. 6112) for the 2022-23 school year.

New school start and end times have now been finalized in anticipation of California’s new start time law taking effect in the 2022-23 school year.  Learn more about how our months-long study of bell schedules impacted the final start and end times in effect starting this fall and see details of your neighborhood school’s new schedules at https://www.cusd.com/BellScheduleReview.aspx.

Updates to our student dress code were also approved Jan. 12 and become effective Jan. 13, 2022. We’re focused on creating a health and safe learning environment where ALL students can be their best in mind, body and spirit, and our dress code and its enforcement is a key ingredient to achieving our goal.  Updates to the dress code are designed to ensure that it fulfills its purpose to:
1.            Support Student Safety
2.            Promote Health & Hygiene
3.            Prepare Students for their Future, and
4.            Establish a Learning Environment Focused on Education

Ensuring that enforcement of the dress code promotes overall student well-being is also critically important. The 2021 Dress Code Review includes the creation of standard operating procedures for dress code enforcement.  Learn more about these best practices, and changes to Board Policy 5132 at https://www.cusd.com/DressCodeReview.aspx.

Thank you to everyone who provided feedback in both of these review processes!
